Requirements for submission of application for registration as a Stockbroker

Qualifications Required

  • To be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus or Cypriots of male descendancy, or aliens who are permanent residents of Cyprus and have a work permit in Cyprus

  • To possess a diploma of a recognized university or to be members of a recognized professional body

  • To have successfully passed the examination in the Law and practices of the Stock Exchange.

To have at least one year’s experience in the exercise of stock exchange work in Cyprus, or as an exception to satisfy the Council that they possess proved experience in another country and are well conversant with the Stock Exchange affairs in Cyprus.

No submission of an application shall be permitted under this Regulation by persons who had been declared on solvency bankrupt or have been sentenced for any offense involving dishonesty or moral indecency.


Requirements for acceptance of an application

  • An application submitted in accordance with the Regulation above, shall be accepted if the Council is satisfied that the applicant, in addition to fulfilling the requirements set out therein, also has the moral prerequisites and is fit and proper to exercise the profession of the stockbroker and to maintain high standards of professional behavior.

  • In the exercise of its discretionary power the Council shall especially take into consideration the following:

(i) the financial integrity.

(ii) the clean penal background.

(iii) the competence.

(iv) the good reputation and character.

(v) the efficiency and honesty of the applicant.
