Consumer Price Index for the Month of January, 2003

The Consumer Price Index for January 2003 decreased by 0,40 units or 0,35% to 113,28 units compared to 113,68 in December 2002. This is mainly due to decreases in the prices of certain clothing, footwear and furnishing items due to sale discounts as well as to decreases in the prices of certain fresh vegetables, fruit and petrol. Increases have been recorded in the prices of cigarettes, diesel oil and kerosene, medical and paramedical services, purchase of new motor-cars, circulation licence of motor-cars and to other goods and services due to an increase in the value added tax from 13% to 15%.

2. The rate of increase of the Index for January 2003 compared to January 2002 was 4,1%.
