Consumer Price Index for the
Month of March, 1999 |
The Department of Statistics and Research announces that
the Consumer Price Index for March, 1999 increased by 2,42 units or 2,0 per cent to 123,16
units compared to 120,74 in the previous month. This is mainly due to increases in the
prices of clothing and footwear following the end of the winter sales, as well as to
increase in the prices of certain fresh vegetables. Decreases were mainly recorded in the
prices of certain fresh fruit ad potatoes.
2. The average rate of increase of the Index for the last twelve months (i.e. April
1998-March 1999) compared to the preceding twelve months (i.e. April 1997-March 1998) was
2,04%.
3. The average rate of increase of the Index for the period January-March 1999 compared
to the corresponding period of the previous year was 1,47% while the Index of March 1999
compared to the Index of March 1998 showed an increase of 1,79%.. |
