1. The Statistical Service announces that in January 2002 the number of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including excursionists) reached 98.839 recording a decrease of 12,1% compared to the corresponding month last year.
    
2. Arrivals of tourists reached 54.067 in January 2002 compared to 64.213 in the corresponding month last year, recording a decrease of 15,8%.
   
   The main countries of tourists arrivals in January 2002 were the United Kingdom with 56,3%, Germany with 10,4%, Greece with 7,0%, Russia with 5,0%, Israel with 2,2%, the United States of America with 1,6% and Sweden with 1,4%. The overwhelming majority, 80,3% of tourists arrivals was from countries of the European Union.
    
3. In January 2002, 40.954 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad compared to 42.920 in the corresponding month last year.
    
4. In January 2002 the number of same-day visitors reached 1.623 of which 492 were same-day tourists and 1.131 excursionists. Long-term immigrants numbered 1.482 and short-term immigrants 581.
