The Statistical Service announces that in June 2002
the number of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including
excursionists) reached 366.818 recording a decrease of 11,2% compared to
the corresponding month last year. For the period January-June 2002
arrivals of travellers reached 1.356.883 compared to 1.546.966 in the
corresponding period of 2001, recording a decrease of 12,3%.
Arrivals of tourists reached 293.192 in June 2002 compared to 322.835 in
the corresponding month last year, recording a decrease of 9,2%. For the
period January-June 2002 arrivals of tourists reached 1.017.387 compared
to 1.170.323 in the corresponding period of 2001, i.e. a decrease of
13,1%.

The main countries of tourist arrivals in June 2002
were the United Kingdom with 59,8%, Russia with 5,4%, Sweden with 4,8%,
Germany with 3,6%, Norway with 2,9%, Greece with 2,8% and Switzerland
with 2,4%. The overwhelming majority, 81,5% of tourist arrivals was from
countries of the European Union.

In June 2002, 61.546 residents of Cyprus returned
from a trip abroad compared to 67.386 in the corresponding month last
year. For the period January-June 2002, 300.441 residents returned from
a trip abroad compared to 295.144 in the corresponding period last year
recording an increase of 1,8%.

In June 2002 the number of same-day visitors reached
9.355 of which 2.438 were same-day tourists and 6.917 excursionists.
Long-term immigrants numbered 1.252 and short-term immigrants 964.
