- The Statistical Service announces that in November 2000 the number
of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including
excursionists) reached 190.532 recording an increase of 9,8% compared
to the corresponding month last year. For the period January-November
2000 arrivals of travellers reached 3.391.902 compared to 3.015.003 in
the corresponding period of 1999, recording an increase of 12,5%.
- Arrivals of tourists reached 133.500 in November 2000 compared to
118.105 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of
13,0%. For the period January-November 2000 arrivals of tourists
reached 2.592.482 compared to 2.350.017 in the corresponding period of
1999, i.e. an increase of 10,3%.
The main countries of tourist arrivals in November 2000 were the
United Kingdom with 50,5%, Germany with 14,6%, Russia with 5,0%,
Greece with 4,9%, Austria with 3,1% and Switzerland with 2,4%. The
overwhelming majority, 82,3% of tourist arrivals was from countries of
the European Union.
- In November 2000, 33.235 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip
abroad compared to 35.070 in the corresponding month last year. For
the period January-November 2000, 546.324 residents returned from a
trip abroad compared to 502.112 in the corresponding period last year
recording an increase of 8,8%.
- In November 2000 the number of same-day visitors reached 21.594 of
which 1.230 were same-day tourists and 20.364 excursionists. Long-term
immigrants numbered 1.005 and short-term immigrants 1.198.
