        - The Statistical Service announces that in September 2000 the number
          of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including
          excursionists) reached 413.915 recording an increase of 10,0% compared
          to the corresponding month last year. For the period January-September
          2000 arrivals of travellers reached 2.814.622 compared to 2.501.482 in
          the corresponding period of 1999, recording an increase of 12,5%.
 
        - Arrivals of tourists reached 329.964 in September 2000 compared to
          309.498 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of
          6,6%. For the period January-September 2000 arrivals of tourists
          reached 2.158.385 compared to 1.961.179 in the corresponding period of
          1999, i.e. an increase of 10,1%.
 
           
          The main countries of tourist arrivals in September 2000 were the
          United Kingdom with 52,8%, Germany with 8,0%, Sweden with 5,7%, Russia
          with 4,8%, Switzerland with 3,6%, Norway with 2,8% and Greece with
          2,2%. The overwhelming majority, 79,3% of tourist arrivals was from
          countries of the European Union. 
        - In September 2000, 52.967 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip
          abroad compared to 48.443 in the corresponding month last year. For
          the period January-September 2000, 469.876 residents returned from a
          trip abroad compared to 421.499 in the corresponding period last year
          recording an increase of 11,5%.
 
        - In September 2000 the number of same-day visitors reached 26.666 of
          which 1.137 were same-day tourists and 25.529 excursionists. Long-term
          immigrants numbered 1.907 and short-term immigrants 2.410.
