Consumer Price Index for the Month of July, 1999

The Department of Statistics and Research announces that the Consumer Price Index for July, 1999 increased by 0,67 units or 0,54 per cent to 125,52 units compared to 124,85 in the previous month. This is mainly due to increases in the prices of certain fresh fruit, pork and electricity. Decreases were recorded in the prices of certain vegetables and clothing and footwear items.

2. The average rate of increase of the Index for the period January-July 1999 compared to the coresponding period of the previous year was 1,45%.

3. The average rate of increase of the Index for the last twelve months (i.e. August 1998-July 1999) compared to the preceding twelve months (i.e. August 1997-July 1998) was 1,81%.
