Consumer Price Index for the Month of May, 2002

The Consumer Price Index for May 2002 increased by 0,06 units or 0,05% to 110,40 units compared to 110,34 in April 2002. This is mainly due to increases in the prices of petroleum products, certain fresh fruit and fresh milk. Decreases have been recorded in the prices of certain fresh vegetables and potatoes.

2. For the period January-May 2002 the CPI recorded an increase of 2,56% compared to the corresponding period of 2001. The rate of increase of the Index for May 2002 compared to May 2001 was 2,35%.

3. The evolution of the Index for the first five months of 2002 and comparison with the corresponding period of last year are shown in the table below:
