ok let's see...
-aki (-akia in the plural) is one of the most usual endings that denote that something is small (there are others i.e. -oula for the fem)
so we have moro -> moraki
filia -> filakia
matia -> matakia
Kardia -> kardoula
psychi -> psychoula
agapi -> agapoula
These 5 are the most common "sweet" words used in Greece. To make myself clear (a hard thing what with me being dizzy and all), I mean that these terms are not only used to denote something small but, most usually, sth 'sweet' or 'dear'.
You would give Filakia i.e. to someone dearer than to one you'd give filia to
It may be more easily understood if you know a little French, where it is more usual than it is in English to call someone like that
i.e. think of "kardoula" more like "petit coeur" than "little heart"
All but "filakia" are usually followed by "mou" meaning "my" |
