Hello friends; The following sentences are from a book written by the phonetic Greek. I have transliterated the book into Greek, but I am a little bit hesitated about the following, how they would be spelled in Greek. 1) Need spelling; PO-so stee-KHEE-zoon tah ghrah-mah-TO-see-mah? How much is the postage? pah-rah-lah-VEE to e-PO-meno pro-EE Overnight delivery. pah-rah-kah-LO THOS-temoo to... Please, pass the... 2)I also would like to know the following be needed corrected; Πόνα το κεφάλι μου. po-NAH to ke-FAH-lee moo. My head hurts. Overnight delivery. pah-rah-kah-LO THOS-temoo to... Παρακαλώ, δώστε μου το... Please, pass the... 2) The right spelling in this case is: Πονά το κεφάλι μου (note where the stress is on the verb). Verbs like πονάω/πονώ have various possible endings in the 1st singular, 1st plural, 3rd singular and 3rd plural persons. Here's a full conjugation of πονάω in the present tense, with all alternatives given:
So you can both say "πονάει το κεφάλι μου" and "πονά το κεφάλι μου". They are both grammatically correct (the first version seems to be more commonly used in Athens, and is maybe slightly less formal than the second version. But really, both are in use). |
