I'll use the greek equivalent of name John Γιάννης to show how the name is declined, because the transliterated variant Τζον is indeclinable (του Τζον, τον Τζον, στον Τζον, etc). ο τοίχος ήταν κόκκινος ο τοίχος είναι κόκκινος ο τοίχος θα είναι κόκκινος (αυτό) ήταν μήλο του Γιάννη (αυτό) είναι μήλο του Γιάννη (αυτό) θα είναι μήλο του Γιάννη (εγώ) έδωσα το μήλο στον Γιάννη (εγώ) δίνω το μήλο στον Γιάννη (εγώ) θα δώσω το μήλο στον Γιάννη (Αυτός) έδωσε το μήλο στον Γιάννη (Αυτός) δίνει το μήλο στον Γιάννη (Αυτός) θα δώσει το μήλο στον Γιάννη (Αυτή) του το έδωσε. (Αυτή) του το δίνει. (Αυτή) θα του το δώσει. Notice, that the pronouns εγώ, αυτός and αυτή are used only when you want to emphasize the person, which is executing the action. Study this example: Ο Νίκος πήρε το κόκκινο αυτοκίνητο του και πήγε στην Αθήνα. We put the definitive article o before names and any noun. In English it is translated => Νick took his red car and went to Athens. You do not say => The Nick took the his red car and went to Athens. O Γιάννης και ο Νίκος είναι φίλοι => WRONG => The John and the Nick are friends!! Ελπίζω να βοήθησα! |
