PEOPLE OF LAPITHOS

These pages provide many information about the people of occupied town of Lapithos in Kyrenia district in CYPRUS. Lapithos was incorporated as a Municipality in 1978 and since then, it continues to be the largest community in Greek population as well as in registered voters in the Kyrenia district. Based on the November 1993 official data, Lapithos ranks first with a total of 2300 voters, the city of Kerynia follows with 1918, Kato Dikomo with 1787 amd Karavas with 1705. Lapithos is a leader in COOP in Cyprus. By the mid 1930's it was one of the first communities to establish COOP Banks to help farmers better market their crops. People of Lapithos were always progressive, and exercises a number of Traditional Trades. The famous Lapithos Lemon Agriculture, Lapithos KNIFE-MAKING, Lapithos POTTERY-MAKING, SILK and CYPRIOT TRADITIONAL CLOTHING, Woodcraft, and even Hunting Techniques for catching birds.

Lapithos was a pioneer and a leading community with well educated, prosperus, and DISTINGUISHED citizens. Unfortunately the barbaric 1974 Turkish invasion interrupted this exceptional development, and caused catastrophe, chaos, and destruction. People of Lapithos NEVER forget their Traditions, and their Land, and ALWAYS struggle for SAFE RETURN TO LAPITHOS.
